Season costs vary depending on how often an athlete practices and competes. The figures below are a practical planning guide; ammunition, tournament, cart and other costs can change during the season.
Palmetto Elite team registration fee. Includes the athlete's team jersey for the season.
Athletes who do not have a family member who is a member of Partridge Creek Gun Club are required to purchase a $50 youth season practice-only membership. This membership is valid only during scheduled Palmetto Elite team practices and does not provide access to the club at any other time.
Annual organizational fee to participate in SCYSF.
Typical tournament entry fee range. Golf cart rentals are approximately $60 per tournament.
Current target cost per clay. Practice cart cost is $5 per rider.
Approximate cost per flat (250 rounds) as of September 2026. Actual prices will vary.
Athletes provide their own shotgun, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and shooting vest or pouch. An appropriate over/under, semi-automatic or pump-action shotgun can be used. Pump-action shotguns will work, but they are generally not preferred for sporting clays because a follow-up shot requires manually cycling the action. Slings or carrying straps attached to the shotgun are not permitted at SCYSF events.
Athletes over age 12 must complete the South Carolina DNR Hunter Education Course. New shooters have until November, and an athlete turning 12 during the season must complete it before the next tournament.
Practices are generally Sundays from 2–4 PM at Partridge Creek Gun Club in Ridgeville. Partridge Creek is our practice location; Palmetto Elite is not affiliated with the club. Athletes are expected to attend at least two practices per month. As with any sport, the more you practice, the more you'll improve.
Partridge Creek is a private club, and athletes may not practice on their own without a member present. Safety and commitment to the squad and team are core expectations.
At tournaments, team jerseys are required along with blue jeans or khaki pants and closed-toe shoes. Shorts, ripped jeans, leggings and open-toed shoes are not permitted under the team/SCYSF standards.
Each athlete should have a parent become a certified assistant coach. Assistant coaches primarily support shooter safety and accountability; they do not need to be accomplished competitive shooters.
